Happy Wednesaday, and welcome back to Tabletop Thoughts!

Yesterday, I released the second video in my June 2026 Print, Paint, and Play series, featuring the painting of a majestic giant eagle miniature. With the United States celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, I decided to give the model a patriotic touch by using the iconic colors of the Bald Eagle as inspiration for the paint scheme.

The miniature itself is a beautifully detailed resin print from The Printing Goes Ever On. To begin the painting process, I applied a quick zenithal-style highlight using white paint and a makeup brush to help define the raised details. From there, I used a variety of Army Painter Speedpaints to establish the eagle’s base colors, taking advantage of their ability to provide vibrant color and natural shading in a single step.

Once the base colors were complete, I went back in with traditional white paint to add some highlights and further enhance the model’s contrast. I also applied a few carefully placed washes to help bring out the intricate feather details, particularly around the head. Painting white feathers can be challenging—white Speedpaint is notoriously difficult to work with—but with a little extra effort and layering, I was able to achieve a result that really makes the eagle stand out on the tabletop.
