Fat Dragon Games Models: Great in FDM, Amazing in Resin

05/15/2026

Happy Friday, and welcome back to Tabletop Thoughts!

Yesterday I shared a quick comparison video showing off some Fat Dragon Games models printed on two different machines: an Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro FDM printer and an Elegoo Mars 3 resin printer.

One of the coolest things about Fat Dragon Games designs is that they’re specifically made to print supportless on FDM printers. That’s a huge win for hobbyists who want reliable prints without spending a ton of time cleaning up supports or dialing in complicated settings. On the Neptune 3 Pro, the models came out looking really solid with clean details and surprisingly smooth results for FDM. The spear tip was a little funny looking but that was about it.

That said… resin still takes things to another level.

When I printed the same models on the Mars 3, the finer details really popped. Edges looked sharper, textures were more defined, and smaller features that were already good in FDM became even more impressive in resin.

Honestly, I think this comparison really highlights how well Fat Dragon Games designs their models. They succeed at being practical for FDM printing while still looking fantastic when pushed to higher-detail resin printing.

If you’ve been curious about the difference between FDM and resin for tabletop terrain and miniatures, this was a fun side-by-side test.
