The past few weeks have been a whirlwind—packed schedules, long days, and very little time for the things that refuel me. But on Tuesday night, for the first time in what feels like ages, I had a free evening. No work, no commitments—just a quiet night and a very cluttered crafting table calling my name.
So I did something I’ve been meaning to do for weeks: I cleaned up my space, grabbed a brush, and finally started painting again.
I didn’t overthink it. I just dove in.
In just a few hours, I managed to finish six miniatures that had been sitting there, primed and highlighted, for far too long: three bulettes, a gelatinous cube, a manticore, and a zombie. Once I got going, the groove came naturally. Time slipped by in that meditative, energizing way it always seems to when I’m fully absorbed in the creative process.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about turning a neglected pile of gray into a shelf of finished, colorful characters. Even more than that, there’s joy in the act itself—in the brush strokes, the color choices, the texture of the models under my fingers.
It reminded me why I love this hobby so much.
A Quick Reminder for Fellow Hobbyists
If you’ve been feeling too busy, too tired, or just overwhelmed by your backlog—you’re not alone. But even carving out an hour or two can make a difference. It doesn’t have to be perfect or productive. Just sit down, clear a little space, and give yourself permission to enjoy the process. Reconnect with why you started in the first place.
Joy lives in the doing, not just the results.
What’s Next
If you’re curious how the models turned out, all of them will be featured in Sunday’s Hobby Week update—so stay tuned!
