Weekly Crafting Update: Miniature Projects

Happy Tuesday and welcome back to Tabletop Thoughts!

Today we will look at what is on my crafting table for the week.

The first is a Red Slaad from EC3D Designs. It is almost complete. I just need to touch up the claws, add a wash, and paint the base.

Here is a halfling house that is painted. I need to apply another layer of blue on the window, then add a white spot on each window to add some ‘character’. I also want to do some more work on the stones of the chimney to make it look a little better.

I have a group of miniatures that I have started to paint. For the skin, I am skipping the speed paints (since I don’t like how the flesh colors turn out) and I am using Monument Hobbies PRO Acrylic Miniature Paint – Tan Flesh. I will have to go back and apply a flesh wash over it but I get better results for the extra work.

I also printed out this rock formation with runes carved into some of the stones. I am thinking of using this as part of a custom build for some Underdark terrain. I have some cheap foam mushrooms that I got from Dollar Tree that I could use with this build. I guess we will see what I come up with…

I have also started to print out the miniatures for my Shadowdark adventure, The Lost Tomb. I decided that I am going to stick to the 4 main races (Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, and Human) for the characters. To give the players options, I am making one of each race for the 4 classes (Fighter, Rogue, Priest, and Wizard). I also made 1/2 of the models male and 1/2 female. So here is the final breakdown:

Race Distribution

RaceFighterPriestThiefWizard
DwarfMale FighterMale PriestFemale ThiefFemale Wizard
HalflingMale FighterFemale PriestFemale ThiefMale Wizard
ElfFemale FighterFemale PriestMale ThiefMale Wizard
HumanFemale FighterMale PriestMale ThiefFemale Wizard

I have all four of the dwarves, two halflings, one human, and 2 elves printed out. The rest are on the printer now and will be done by the time I get home from work. I also have the four skeletons, four spiders, and a ghoulish figure printed. The stirges and spider swarm are on the printer now as well. (The Elegoo Saturn 3’s build plate holds A LOT of miniatures) When these are all printed, I am going to prime them black and probably give them a quick SlapChop drybrush of white to bring out the details.

All of these miniatures are from Brite Minis, Fat Dragon Games, or EC3D Designs. They are all designed to be printed supportless. I chose these over some of my other models I have because supportless models are a little beefer and handle shipping and gameplay better since they don’t have many thin pieces.

As soon as they are all complete, I will set up the True Tiles with the scatter terrain, place the miniatures on the board, and take some photos for the channel. I might also do a YouTube video of the project.

Keep on gaming!
