Weekly Update: Crafting a Halfling House & Dungeon Decor

09/22/2024

Happy Sunday and welcome back to another Weekly Update! I was busy this week but I completed a few things.

I finished painting the halfling house. It was printed on my Ender 3 Pro FDM printer. I primed it black with a rattle can then gave it a dry brush with light gray. The browns are India ink and the blue in miniature paints (MSP Icy Blue).

I also finished creating more dungeon pillars using my FDM printer. Since these were printed in black, I just gave them an overcoat of pewter gray. I took tan and burgundy craft paint and colored 2 bricks on each pillar. A dry brush of light gray ties them all together and tones down the brighter colors. A black wash after the paint dries and these pillars are done. This set of 8 pillars is going onto the Etsy store along with 2 more sets of bare Black PLA.

I looked at the post about the September Giveaway to see which miniatures were selected by the community for the giveaway. There were 2 likes and no comments. Apparently, no one is interested in my giveaway idea. I don’t have the time to paint them so I will see about giving them away to people I know instead. I am an engineer and work with “nerdy” people so I am sure I will find someone at work who needs some miniatures to paint.

I am still in the process of putting together a setup that I can use to make videos. I have the video editing software and the equipment is still coming in. Soon, we will see how a YouTube channel works.

Keep on gaming!

  1. Love the terrian pieces! Just a quick note about YouTube: I’ve had a channel for almost 2 years now. It was a bit of a shotgun approach in the beginning, much like my blog, but I’ve seemed to find a rhythm of mostly model trains with a dash of scale model dioramas. The gaming stuff fizzled with my audience and I’m contemplating opening a second channel just for that content.
All of this is to say, I jumped in with my iPhone, a free recording app and iMovie and I still film and edit this way. Mostly what I’ve added are lights and phone holders! It’s more work, but I like voice-over versus talking while filming. So folks a great at it, I am not one of those!
Good luck with your channel, and remember to just start and find your voice and style along the way!

    1. That is awesome! I pretty much am ready to go except I need to work on the video editing part. I am going to use Capcut and I want to make sure I have a small idea of what I am doing before I start.

      1. One of the things I did and try to do is I made 3 or 4 movies and uploaded them before I started publishing them. That gave me the ability to release new content on a schedule, I still try for a weekly release, but …

        Anyway good luck!
