Weekly Update – D&D Miniature Creation and Gaming Hobby Recap

09/08/2024

Happy Sunday and welcome back for another Weekly Update! This week, I got a few more miniatures completed, a couple of scatter terrain on the table, and a request from a coworker done.

I got a couple of miniatures from The Printing Goes Ever On painted this week. Both of these models are printed in resin. I used acrylic inks on the Grick and the elf was done using speed paints over a zenithal highlight.

Here is a Cube O’ Snot from Fat Dragon Games printed with filament on an FDM printer. I gave it a SlapChop highlight and then painted it with acrylic inks. I was out of gloss spray varnish so I used gloss ModPodge. I don’t like how it dries on larger surfaces like a miniature. I will have to get more gloss spray varnish at the store this week.

Here are a pair of skeleton wall pieces from Fat Dragon Games printed with filament on an FDM printer. I primed them black, overbrushed with dark gray, ivory on the bones, black wash, then light gray dry brush, making sure to highlight the figure on the top of the sarcophagus. These are nice pieces to drop on a tomb scene or ancient dungeon.

One of my coworkers mentioned that her daughter has begun to play D&D and asked if I would make a miniature. I got the description of the character and found a miniature that fit. I printed it in resin, primed it black with a rattle can, and applied zenithal highlights with an airbrush. I used mostly Army Painter Speed Paints with a few others as needed. I flocked the base with a few small stones followed by mixed turf. I added the drylands plant and sealed it with a matte spray varnish.

I also had this container in my pile of shame that I painted up. I will give this to the coworker’s daughter. She could use it to hold dice or other small objects.

It is great when you can help other people get into the hobby of gaming.

Keep on gaming!
