Random Dungeon Encounter -The Lair of Xyrkros the All-Seeing

Here is the text from ChatGPT:

Terrain: The dungeon leading up to Xyrkros’ lair is filled with winding corridors, narrow passages, and deadly traps. The lair itself is a large, circular chamber with a high ceiling and smooth stone walls. The floor is covered in a layer of thick, green slime that makes movement difficult and dangerous.

Beholder Name: Xyrkros the All-Seeing

Encounter Description: Xyrkros is an ancient and powerful beholder who has made his lair in the depths of the dungeon. He is known for his insatiable curiosity and his love of collecting rare and valuable artifacts. When the heroes enter his lair, Xyrkros greets them with a booming voice and demands to know why they have come. He is suspicious of outsiders and may attack them on sight.

If the heroes are able to defeat Xyrkros, they can claim the following loot:

  • A magical staff that allows the wielder to cast the spell “Disintegrate” once per day.
  • A suit of +3 Plate Armor that provides resistance to acid damage.
  • A bag of holding that can hold up to 500 pounds of material.
  • A chest filled with 10,000 gold pieces and various gems and jewels worth an additional 20,000 gold pieces.

Xyrkros is not without his defenses, however. He has several powerful eye rays at his disposal, including disintegration, petrification, and fear. He is also able to levitate and move quickly through the air, making him a difficult target to hit.

The heroes will need to work together and use all of their skills and abilities if they hope to defeat Xyrkros and claim his treasure.

This is definitely a combat encounter for a higher-level party, but a lower-level party could survive if they talk their way out of the situation.

So here is what I came up with as a setup using my miniatures and terrain:

Using a dungeon UDT 3.0 from PDM over at Dungeoncraft, I have the basic outline of the circular room by using some UDT curved walls. I added a couple of doors (you need to get in and out) plus some pillars to hold up the ceiling (and hide behind). I use my color changing LED light to give a green glow to the floor, showing off the difficult slime terrain.

I would hide the treasure behind the metal door so the players didn’t know what was there. They might decide to just leave if they don’t think they could take on a beholder.

I really like how that beholder’s paint job turned out. I have two more on the printer so I can try to duplicate it but with different colors.

Keep on gaming!
