While running my homebrew campaign based on the Morgansfort Campaign for Basic Fantasy, I added more content to the adventure by adding a notice board to the center of town. On it, I added different information for the PCs plus side quests that they could go on if they wanted extra money.
I used a program called Paint.net , to make the notice board. It is free software that is a lot like PhotoShop. It allows you to place a background in the template then add layers to the image. That way, you don’t have to recreate the board every time. Below is the image of the 1st notice board that I handed out to the party when they arrived at the fort.

The board gives the party an idea of where to go to look for a room when in town. While at the inn, I had the party receive rumors of other things that might be in the area (an old fortress down the road, ghost in a mansion, etc). This also adds to the feeling that the party can go anywhere and do anything that they want.
After a while, I changed the board to the image below:

Since it isn’t a single image, I was able to remove the turnip farmer letter from the board (that is what my players did first) and replaced it with another sign. This one reinforced a rumor one of the players had got about goblins in the area.

After a while, I introduced another adventuring party to the area that went by the name of the Horror Squad. They went to the bandit camp and captured the bandit queen so I removed that sign from the 3rd notice board and replaced it with one from the Horror Squad. The party had planned on going after the bandit queen (and in fact tried once to get her), but the Horror Squad did it and took their reward.
Elven Tower is the site where I got the images and posters. I got the Wanted Posters from Bexim’s Bazaar magazine. It has a new wanted poster in almost every issue of the magazine.
Keep on gaming!
