Sunday Tabletop Thoughts: From Orcus to Underdark Terrain

03/08/2026

Happy Sunday, and welcome back to Tabletop Thoughts!

Things have been a little crazy around here lately, so I haven’t had much time to share pictures or updates. Between my regular schedule and a lot of extra days at the second job, hobby time has been pretty limited.

But this week I finally managed to carve out some time! I took a vacation day from both jobs on Thursday and had all day Saturday free, which meant I could actually sit down at the hobby desk and make some real progress.

It felt great to get back into the rhythm of building and painting terrain again. There’s something really satisfying about seeing projects move forward after they’ve been sitting on the table waiting for attention.

Here’s a look at what I was able to work on!

We’ll start things off with the big man himself—Orcus.

This model comes from Fat Dragon Games, and I printed it on my Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro using FDM. After printing, I gave the model a quick round of white highlights using a makeup brush to help pick out the details before diving in with the speed paints.

From there, it was mostly letting the paints do their magic and building up the colors. I’m really happy with how he turned out—the details popped nicely, and he has a great tabletop presence. Not bad for a demon lord straight off the printer!

The FDM printer has definitely been working overtime this week.

I painted up another Druid Circle set from EC3D Design. To start, I used some gray and white drybrushing with a makeup brush to pick up the stone texture. After that, I added a little green India ink to bring the vines to life, followed by a black wash to deepen the shadows and tie everything together. Once it was finished, the set went straight into stock for the Etsy store.

The Wyvern is from Brite Minis. I painted the last one in blue, so this time I decided to go with a couple of different greens to mix things up. The teeth and claws were done in Bonewhite, with Princess Pink for the tongue. To finish it off, I gave it red eyes with a black slit, which really helps give it that classic, dangerous look.

The large spiders are from Fat Dragon Games and were printed on the FDM printer. After printing, I gave each of them a light dry brush with white to bring out the details, then followed up with speed paints. I used different color schemes for each spider so they would all feel unique on the table rather than look like a cloned swarm.

The Underdark terrain is also brand new. I built these pieces using some materials I picked up at Dollar General, and I recorded the entire creation process while putting them together. That build video should be coming out later this week, so keep an eye out if you’d like to see how they were made!

Next up are two more Chimeras from Brite Minis. Since I already had these printed on the FDM printer, I decided to give them a quick SlapChop-style paint job with speed paints to get them table-ready.

I already have a few of these in my personal collection, so these two didn’t need to stay on my shelf. Instead, they went into the free mini bin that I include with Etsy orders. It’s always fun tossing a little surprise into a package for someone’s table!

More FDM printed goodness this week! The elementals were painted up using my usual process and added to the Etsy shop stock, along with the painted ruined walls you can see in the background. Lately, a lot of my printing and painting time has been focused on building up inventory for the store, so there are plenty of options available.

Speaking of the shop, I’m currently running a 50% off sale on the Modular Dungeon Sticks for the rest of the month—and they still come with free shipping. I’m mainly trying to clear a little space on the shelves and get some of these sets back out into the gaming community where they belong. The remaining sets are unpainted, but they’re very easy to finish with just a little hobby time.

The Modular Dungeon Sticks are especially great for new Dungeon Masters or Dungeon Masters who travel to different game locations. Because they’re modular, you can quickly build a dungeon right at the table and expand it as the adventure unfolds. They’re lightweight, easy to transport, and perfect for creating encounters on the fly without needing a full terrain setup beforehand.

I even made a YouTube video a while back showing how I paint up the Dry Cavern Dungeon Sticks, if you’d like to see how quick and easy they can be to finish.

Keep on gaming!
