A Peek at the Projects Taking Over My Hobby Desk

01/27/2025

Happy Tuesday, and welcome back to Tabletop Thoughts!

Today, I thought it’d be fun to take a quick tour of the projects currently taking up space on my crafting table. There’s a little bit of everything in progress right now—some pieces that are nearly finished, others that are still very much in the “trust the process” stage. With a bit of luck (and a few uninterrupted hobby sessions), I’m hoping at least a handful of these will cross the finish line by the end of the week. Either way, it should be a productive stretch at the table, and I’m excited to see how these projects shape up.

Starting things off is a young green dragon from EC3D Design. This one was printed in resin, and it’s at that satisfying almost-done stage. I just need to give the model a careful once-over to make sure I didn’t miss any small details, touch up anything that needs it, and then it’ll be ready for a protective matte clear coat. After that, this dragon will officially be table-ready and itching to terrorize some unsuspecting adventurers.

I’m not entirely sure where the burning altar originally came from, but the wizard is from a Humble Bundle and the elf is from EC3D Design. All three of these models are well along in the process and firmly in the “almost finished” category. The burning altar just needs a little more attention on the censer—most likely a black or sepia wash to help bring out the runes—before I can officially call it done. The wizard and the elf are in a similar place, with only their bases left to finish and a quick final inspection to make sure I didn’t miss any small details. Once that’s wrapped up, all three will be ready to hit the table.

The dwarf comes from Fat Dragon Games, while the troll is from EC3D Design. Both of these models are well into the home stretch and quickly approaching the finish line. At this point, they just need a bit of attention on their bases to really tie them into the table, followed by a careful once-over to make sure all the small details were picked out. After that final pass, these two will be officially finished and ready to join the rest of the painted crew.

These models are still very much in the early stages of painting. The wizard comes from the HeroQuest reprint I picked up, and the female adventurers are from Fat Dragon Games. I’ve managed to get a few base colors down on each of them, but there’s still plenty of work ahead—layers, details, shading, and all the little touches that really bring them to life. They’ve got a long way to go, but the groundwork is officially in place.

Here are a few more models from Fat Dragon Games, all of which are also in the very early stages of the painting process. Right now, they’ve only just begun to get some color, and there’s still a lot of work ahead before they’re anywhere near finished. For now, they’re firmly in the “work in progress” pile, waiting their turn for more attention at the painting table.

These models are from Artisan Guild’s free Vanguard series, specifically the January release, and they’re about as fresh as it gets. They’ve just come off the printer with the supports removed, so they’re still at the very beginning of their journey. Before any paint touches them, they’ll need to be mounted to bases and given a good prime. Once that’s done, they’ll be ready to move from raw prints to proper painting projects.

Keep on gaming!
