Painting the Undead: A Grave Situation

10/22/2025

Happy Tuesday, and welcome back to Tabletop Thoughts!

It’s shaping up to be another busy week, but the craft table is fully loaded and ready for some fresh painting projects. With Halloween creeping closer, you’ll notice a definite horror theme taking over the week’s creations!

Here’s a pack of zombies from Fat Dragon Games. These models were originally designed to print supportless on an FDM printer, but I decided to run them on my Mars 3 resin printer instead—and the detail upgrade is incredible. I’ve already given them a SlapChop drybrush and hit them with Malignant Green Speedpaint to bring out that lovely undead glow.

Next up are eight skeletons from Fat Dragon Games, printed in resin just like the zombies. I’ve already given them the SlapChop drybrush treatment, and they’re now lined up and waiting for some paint to bring them to (un)life.

Here’s a group of vampires from EC3D Design, printed in resin and already drybrushed—now they’re just waiting for a splash of paint (and maybe a few victims). These would fit perfectly into any Curse of Strahd campaign, or really any adventure that could use a touch of gothic menace.

Rounding out the batch are a few blights from EC3D Design—a vine blight, twig blight, and needle blight, all printed in resin. They’re prepped and ready, but I’ll probably push these toward the end of the painting queue for now.

This Open Grave terrain piece is from The Printing Goes Ever On, printed on my FDM printer. It’s already glued together and primed, just waiting for some color. I’m thinking of using earthy browns and muted greens for the ground, with a touch of flock around the edges to give it that freshly disturbed look. We’ll see how it turns out once the paint starts flowing!

That wraps up this week’s spooky lineup! Between the zombies, skeletons, vampires, and blights, there’s plenty of eerie energy haunting the craft table. The Open Grave terrain piece should pull everything together nicely once it’s finished—perfect timing for the Halloween season. I’m excited to see how these all turn out once the paints, washes, and a bit of imagination bring them to (un)life.

Keep on gaming!
