Busy Days, Quiet Hobby: Why Breaks Can Be Good

08/29/2025

Life Has Been Busy
Between working two jobs, running my eBay/Etsy stores, and helping my daughter prepare for the arrival of twins (a boy and a girl!), life has been running at full speed lately. Add in a Neptune 3 Pro 3D printer that is down — waiting for a new extruder, which I plan to install over the long weekend — and it feels like the days are completely spoken for.

When the Hobby Slows Down
With everything going on, I’ve found myself with very little time—or motivation—to sit down and paint, craft, or build. At first, I felt guilty about it. The hobby has always been a source of joy and creativity, so when that spark wasn’t there, I wondered if I was letting it slip away.

It’s Okay to Step Back
But here’s the thing: it’s completely normal to take breaks from crafting and gaming. Sometimes life demands more of us, and the table or the workbench has to wait. And that’s okay. Breaks aren’t failures—they’re chances to breathe, recharge, and come back later with new energy and fresh ideas.

Finding Inspiration in the Pause
Even when you’re not actively building or painting, you can still stay connected to the hobby. Watching what others create, reading adventures, or simply letting your mind wander can be inspiring. Inspiration has a way of sneaking in when you least expect it, and often, stepping back gives you the clarity you didn’t even know you needed.

New Video Release
Speaking of staying inspired, I just released a new video on my YouTube channel: What Am I Working On Now?. In it, I share some behind-the-scenes looks at what I’ve been tinkering with lately. If you want to see what’s been on my bench, check it out!
