Miniature Painting, Cavern Scatter, and a Cottage Conversion: Crafting Your Dream Terrain!

02/25/2025

Happy Tuesday and welcome to Tabletop Thoughts!

Last week was very busy with call-offs at my 2nd job so I didn’t get a chance to finish any of the stuff I started. It happens, but it just makes this week extra busy!

These big boys are almost complete. I got a Shanmbler from EC3D Designs, An Ironmoor Troll and a Cyclops from The Printing Goes Ever On.

All three of the models got the SlapChop method of painting, but the Shambler got India inks instead of speed paints. I really like how the troll turned out. I might have to print out another…

The skin on the Cyclops is getting a little closer to what I am looking for but it is just a little off. I will experiment with the new batch of miniatures (see below) to see if I like it better. (I used a white undertone, a light tan flesh paint overbrush, then covered it with Army Painter crusader skin speed paint.) These models just need a touch-up on the bases and the clear matte coat and I am calling them done.

This thrift store plastic hydra is almost done too. I am not sure if I want to add anything to the base or not. Maybe some plants or grass tuffs? Maybe a rock? Let me know what you think in the comments below!

The cavern terrain is almost complete. I believe it just needs a matte clear coat to seal the paint then some gloss ModPodge on the water effects to bring back the shine!

I also started to convert a plastic doll house from Dollar Tree into a medieval cottage. I took two of the dollhouses, modified them, and glued them together to make a complete dollhouse. It is similar to the work done on Dirty Basement Terrain. You can see his here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhI0o1rir7c

Here is what it looks like in the package:

I still have a lot of work to do on it, including the shingles, the door handle and banding, and the wood framing but I think it is coming along well. For the plaster areas of the cottage, I will try to create a homemade texture paste. Hopefully, it will turn out the way I want. We will see!

A new batch of miniatures from the EC3D Designs Beasts and Baddies Collection. I really like the Slaad and gargoyle miniatures in the bunch. They will go into the bins waiting for priming then into the bin waiting for painting. I have another set that I want to get printed out this week as well.

More miniatures!

I still need to remove the supports and cure these miniatures. After that, priming and painting.

There is no shortage of work in the crafting room, just a shortage of time and effort.

Keep on gaming!
