What’s on My Paint Table: Weekly Insights

01/14/2025

Happy Tuesday and welcome to Tabletop Thoughts!

This week, I have a lot of items on the table so let’s take a quick look at what I am working on.

I have added the kitty litter flocking to the bases of three of the plastic dragons. I think I am going to just paint the orange one’s base black (keeping the paint job it already has) while I totally prime the other two dragons and start over on them. I will do the simple light gray dry brushing of the flocking when they are all painted.

My dragon turtle (The Printing Goes Ever On) is primed. I am thinking of recording the painting of this model. I will highlight it with a makeup brush since it is thick and sturdy (no small weapons to break off).

I have a pair of Ironmoor trolls (The Printing Goes Ever On) that I need to highlight and paint. I was thinking of using them as part of a giveaway for my YouTube channel when I hit 50 subscribers (I’m halfway there now).

I have the four elementals (The Printing Goes Ever On) primed and highlighted. These should be rather quick (maybe not fire since that is 3 colors that you have to blend) so I should have some of them finished by Sunday.

I have a few smaller miniatures in the process as well. The cop in the top picture and the rocker in the bottom are from the Ghost City set by EC3D Designs. I am going to use them in my Neon Skies campaign (if I ever get it up and running). The female in the top picture needs highlights and then a nice paint job. I like the sculpt so I want to make sure I give it a nice paint theme so it looks good.

Here is a female with a sword from Ghost City. I painted the skin white and then applied Peachy Flesh speed paint over that. I like the face but not the legs. I am still not happy with speed paints for flesh colors. I might stick with traditional paints and washes for flesh colors for now. I may need to watch more YouTube videos to see if there is a better way.

I have a forest dragon (Rustyfuzzdoor), a frost giant (TPGEO), a Grick (TPGEO), and 2 spiders (TPGEO) waiting for their turn on the paint table. I really like the color scheme I did on a previous Grick (see below) so I might do a repeat of that. I am thinking of using that darker green on its back for the skin color of the dragon turtle with a brown color for the shell. I might give the dragon and spiders to a friend who has a son who has started painting miniatures. I gave him about 50 FDM miniatures yesterday so a couple of resin ones would be nice, especially since the son has a birthday coming up soon.

I still have a lot of resin figures that I need to remove the supports and cure in the backlog as well. These are from various artists and companies. I believe most are from TPGEO’s latest release that contains Gods of their world.

I work the 2nd job tonight but then I am off from there until Sunday (still have my main job Monday through Friday). That should give me plenty of time to get some of the items completed and off the table this week.

I also wanted to start a video series for my YouTube channel to showcase some of the models/terrain that I have already done. I might be able to do a video for that quickly as well since it is just talking and showing off finished items.

Keep on gaming!
