What’s on the Table Tuesday? – Miniatures, Terrain Pieces, and 3D Printing Heartbreak

08/13/2024

Welcome back! Here is a quick look at what I have on the painting table:

The dwarf, the warrior, and the Spartans are still on the table. They should be the next miniatures to get finished since my painting hopes were dashed this morning (see below). I also printed out another tree yesterday and got most of the colors on it. The tree needs a little more work, and then it will be done (probably tonight). I needed more trees since I sold a bunch the last week. I can always use trees in my glamour shots on my miniatures.

I also printed out two mystic ponds and a dwarven house. All of these terrain pieces are from The Printing Goes Ever On. The dwarven house will get a dark wash, then it might be complete. I will see what it looks like. The ponds are going to need some work.

As I mentioned on Sunday, I wanted to print out these Hags from the latest release from The Printing Goes Ever On, The Lullaby of Stone. I set up the resin printer Sunday night to print them out for Monday morning. I woke up to find the Coven Mother (large hag in the center) didn’t print at all and the hag on the left was missing her left hand. I had to clean the resin tank Monday night and set it up for another printing.

I woke up this morning to find ALL hags did not print out correctly. This failure wasn’t as bad with pieces floating in the resin tank so I did a quick tank clean run, peeled off the cured slab, and started another print. I chose the grick, a file already on the USB drive that has run without error in the past. I want to see if the problem is the pre-supported model files or if I need to go through the complete maintenance of the resin printer. I can always add more supports to the models if needed (I shouldn’t have to but it won’t be the first time I have).

I’m not going to lie, I really wanted to work on those hags tonight. I have to work Wednesday and Thursday night at the second job so Friday night I will be exhausted from the back-to-back doubles followed by the morning job. Maybe Saturday, if I can get the models to print. If not, I may try the formorians, which were next on the print list. They are a little beefier and may have a better chance to print correctly.

Keep on gaming!
