“Grizzled dragon hunters, studious vampire slayers, and fiend-smiting champions who have dedicated their study to the destruction of monsters.”
Slayers get access to the following weapons: Crossbow, dagger, holy water (a new weapon in this supplement), longbow, longsword, shortbow, shortsword, spear, and stake (another new weapon). Slayers can wear leather armor.
Slayers gain an additional language based on their selected Prey (see the Features below).
Slayers get access to 3 Features: Tactician, Prey, and Monster Lore.
Tactician allows the Slayer to use their INT bonus instead of STR or DEX on attack rolls.
Prey allows the Slayer to select (or roll) on a table of 10 categories of monsters that the Slayer has specialized in killing. The Slayer gains a language of the Prey (if they have one) and a Talent based onthe Prey. The categories include Angels, Aquatic Creatures, Beasts & Monstrosities, Constructs & Oozes, Demons & Devils, Dragons, Elder Things & Elementals, Fey & Plants, Giants & Ogres & Trolls, and Undead.
Monster Lore gives the Slayer Advantage on checks to recall information about their Prey and their weaknesses. It also gives Advantages to track or intimidate those creatures.
Overall Take: This class is your typical Van Helsing or Geralt of Rivia. Someone who trained to kill monsters. I like this class but the GM and player should talk before creating a Slayer. If some of the Prey categories aren’t going to be featured in the game, the GM should make the player aware. Nobody wants to play the Slayer of Aquatic Creatures in a desert campaign.
