Superhero Saturday – The Olympian

05/27/2023

I recently got the Sentinels Comics Roleplaying Game by Greater than Games. I thought I would try creating a character to see how it goes. I have no concept at all going into this and will build the character as we move through the process.

Step 1 – Background

You roll two D10s and use the results to see what choices you have. I roll a 4 and a 5. So I have the options of (4) Adventurer, (5) Unremarkable, or (9) Performer. I choose Performer which gives me a D10 and a D8 to put into qualities and a Responsibilty Principle. I choose Acrobatics (D10) and Finesse (D8) for their qualities and the Principle of the Mask. We add the Green Ability from the Principle to the character sheet. We will get to roll a D10, a D8, and a D6 for the power source.

Concept: We have someone that likes to be in the limelight and has some acrobatic ability, maybe a young competitive gymnast…

Step 2 – Power Source

We roll a 3, 6, and 9. That gives us the choices of (3) Genetic, (6) Nature, (9) Radiation, (12) Artificial Being, and (15) Genius. Going with the young gymnast, we decide on (3) Genetic as the Power Source. We next have to place the die we rolled for the power source into the Powers listed for genetics. We choose Agility (D10), Vitality (D8), and Strength (D6).

We get to roll a D10 and 2D8 for an archetype.

Concept: Our gymnast is a mutant. At some point, she started to develop her mutant abilities. Her Principle of the Mask would mean that she would hide her abilities (probably drop out of gymnastics and train in private, maybe becoming a gymnastics trainer).

Step 3 – Archetype

We roll a 3, 5, and 7. That gives us the choice of Physical Powerhouse, Blaster, Armored, Flyer, Robot/Cyborg, and Psychic. After a bit of thought, I go with a Flyer (it fits the concept better). I choose Flight D8, Fitness D8, and Science D10. We get to choose two Green abilities too. I choose Sonic Boom [Flight] and Barrel Roll {Fitness] that I rename Aerial Tumbling on the character sheet. I then get to add one of the abilities as a Yellow and choose Dive & Drop [Flight]. We get to choose an Ideals Principle and I go with the Principle of the Hero. I add the Green ability from the Principle to the character sheet.

We roll 2D10 for personality

Concept: I see our hero as a young female that is nimble and quick. Her powers make her a good fighter and she uses them to protect people more than look for trouble to face.

Step 4 – Personality

We roll a 3 and a 7 so we get the choices of Impulsive, Stalwart, and Alluring. I go with Stalwart and place D8 in all of their status Dice slots. I get to add a quality based on the character’s backstory. For the quality, I choose College Student D8. We also get the Out Ability and we assign it to our [Agility].

Concept: Our hero is a talented gymnast who helps with the training of others at her college. She is very bright (maybe working on her PhD). She doesn’t compete on her own since she knows that her power would give her an unfair advantage.

Step 5 – Red Abilities

We get to two Red abilities. I choose Untouchable Movement [Flight] and Book it! [Acrobatics].

Step 6 – Retcon

We choose to swap the Dice between Fitness and Science.

Step 7 – Health

Health is set at 8 + 8 {Red Status Die] + 10 [Highest Athletic Die] + 5 [Roll a D8] = 31. We mark that on the character sheet.

Step 8 – Finishing Touches

We finish filling out the rest of the character sheet (name, age, etc) and give the hero the name of The Olympian.

We got a great character for Sentinel Comics RPG. We do a quick Google search for artwork for the character and we are done.

I’ll have to make another one next week, just to make sure I got the hang of character creation.

Keep on gaming!
