Worldbuilding Wednesday – Some History of Eldoria

04/26/2023

Now that we have some information about the 4 kingdoms in Eldoria, we should learn something about the history of the kingdoms from ChatGPT:

There have been many significant events in the rich history of Eldoria, some of which are still remembered and celebrated today:

  • The Great War of Aranthia: This was a devastating conflict that took place over a century ago, between the Kingdom of Aranthia and the neighboring Kingdom of Thessaria. The war lasted for nearly a decade and saw many great battles, including the Battle of Northwatch and the Siege of Aranthor. The war finally ended when a group of powerful mages from both sides came together to forge a magical treaty that ensured peace between the two kingdoms.
  • The Dragon Wars: These were a series of battles between the Kingdom of Drakoria and a powerful dragon named Remrot, who terrorized the kingdom for many years. The final battle took place in the Frosthold mountains, where the dragon was finally defeated by a group of brave warriors led by the legendary dwarven knight Sir Chaosbane.
  • The Moonstone Quest: This was a legendary quest undertaken by a group of adventurers from the Kingdom of Valtara, who sought to recover the fabled Moonstone, a powerful magical artifact that was said to have the power to control the tides of the sea. The quest took the group across the land, from the forests of Silverwood to the shores of Sapphire Bay, and finally to the ruins of an ancient temple deep in the heart of the Firestone Mountains.
  • The Rise of the Necromancer: Many years ago, a powerful sorcerer named Zoltar rose to power in the Shadowhaven swamp, using dark magic to create an army of undead soldiers. His army swept across the land, destroying everything in its path, until it was finally stopped by a group of powerful mages who sealed Zoltar and his army away in a magical tomb deep beneath the swamp.

That isn’t a bad history coming from an AI. We learned:

  • Aranthia and Thessaria (both human kingdoms) fought a great war in the past.
  • Drakoria fought against Remrot the dragon. Maybe Remrot was the leader of the dragons and this is the reason why the dwarves use dragons as mounts. Maybe in this realm dragons aren’t intelligent creatures like in regular D&D, maybe they are more bestial.
  • Elves took on a quest for the Moonstone, a relic that can control the seas. Valtara is land-locked so maybe the elves use the relic as a way to keep peace with Aranthia. If Aranthia would attack, Valtara could use the relic to wreak havoc on the ships and islands of Aranthia.
  • Valtara’s Shadownhaven swamp holds an evil undead army that was sealed away in a tomb.

Today, adventurers can explore many locations throughout Eldoria that are steeped in history and legend. Some of these include:

  • The ruins of Northwatch, the site of the famous Battle of Northwatch during the Great War of Aranthia.
  • The Frosthold Mountains, where the final battle against the dragon Remrot took place.
  • The ancient temple in the mountains, where the Moonstone was recovered.
  • The catacombs beneath Shadowhaven, where Zoltar and his army of undead soldiers are said to be sealed away.
  • The lost city of Eldrina is a legendary city said to have been founded by the god of the hunt, Eldrina, and hidden somewhere deep in the forests of Oakwood.
  • The Tower of the Magi, a towering structure located on the outskirts of Athendria, that was once home to a powerful order of mages.

Here we learned

  • the city of Northwatch, the Aranthian city near the Dragonspire Mountain, contains ruins from the battle. Since this city is the gateway to Drakoria on a trade route, the town must have been rebuilt with the ruined section of the city walled off. This might be a good location for adventure.
  • There is an ancient site in the Frosthold mountains where Remrot fell in battle. Since it is in the frozen mountains in the north, the site could contain frozen remains of the dwarves along with dragons that fought alongside Remrot. Maybe there is still treasure there (magical weapons and armor?)
  • There is an ancient temple in the Firestone Mountains. A temple to which deity? Why was the Moonstone there?
  • There is a lost city in the forest between Aranthia and Drakoria near the Frosthold Mountains. Who lived there? A lost civilization of elves? Druids?
  • The Kingdom of Thessaria holds a tower that belonged to a powerful order of mages. Where did they go? Did they move to the Crismon Keep in Valtara?

I have also started to draw up a map for the kingdoms. I am not an artist so I went to Worldographer and made a hex map using the information from the previous sessions with ChatGPT. Here is what it looks like now:

I still need to add rivers, roads, names of places, etc to the map but at least it is started.

Keep on gaming!
