Worldbuilding Wednesday -The Kingdom of Drakoria

04/05/2023

We continue of world-building exercise with ChatGPT. Today, we take a detailed look at the Kingdom of Drakoria.

Here is what we got from the earlier questions:

Kingdom of Drakoria:

  • Capital city: Dragonspire, ruled by Queen Rhiannon, a strong and wise ruler feared by her enemies.
  • Other cities/villages: Blackwood, Firestone, Frosthold, Ironforge
  • Major deities worshipped: Bahamut, God of justice and protection; Tiamat, goddess of wealth and power; Kord, god of strength and battle.

Now, for the new material:

In the Kingdom of Drakoria, Bahamut is the most widely worshipped deity, as the people believe strongly in justice and protection. Tiamat and Kord are also revered, as they represent wealth and strength, respectively. Drakoria is mostly mountains and forests, with a few fertile valleys and rivers.

The people have a strong sense of justice, live in the mountains, and desire wealth. From this, I decided that the Kingdom of Drakoria is the Dwarven Kingdom for the setting. There might be other dwarves in the world, but this is the major kingdom for them.

The Kingdom of Drakoria is a mountainous region, with its capital city of Dragonspire perched atop a towering peak. To the east lies the Firestone Mountains, home to fearsome dragons and other dangerous creatures, while to the west lies the icy expanse of Frosthold.

So the dwarves live in the cold mountain in the North with dragons in the area. Their capital city is on the side of a mountain so it would be well-protected from sieges.

Starting Town: Ironforge

Starting NPCs:

  1. Blacksmith Gorn, a gruff but friendly dwarf who is always looking for new apprentices.
  2. Priestess Dara is a devout follower of Bahamut who tends to the local temple.
  3. Innkeeper Olga is a rotund woman who runs the local inn and is always happy to tell stories.

The starting NPCs even have dwarf-sounding names! Depending on where I place this city in the world, there could be an intermingling of different races in the city. It might be a trade town on the border with other kingdoms.

Adventure Hooks:

  1. Goblin Invasion: A group of goblins have taken over the nearby mine and are causing trouble for the local miners. The adventurers are asked to drive the goblins out.
  2. Missing Heirloom: A local noble has had a valuable family heirloom stolen, and suspects that a rival family is responsible. The adventurers are asked to retrieve the heirloom and bring the thieves to justice.
  3. Lost Expedition: A group of adventurers set out to explore a nearby ruin but haven’t returned. The adventurers are asked to find them and bring them back safely.
  4. Goblin Heist: The local bank has been robbed by a group of goblin thieves, and the adventurers are asked to retrieve the stolen gold and bring the thieves to justice.

Some solid starting quests for a low-level party of PCs.

The Kingdom of Drakoria is located in the north, beyond the towering peaks of the Dragonspine Mountains. Its capital city, Dragonspire, is built on the side of a great volcano and is home to fierce dragon riders and skilled warriors. The kingdom is known for its rich deposits of precious metals and gems, as well as its dangerous monsters like giants and dragons.

Dwarven Dragonriders?! That sounds very cool! I also like the capital city is now on the side of a volcano… that will allow for some great terrain builds in the future.

Definitely have to start looking at the different locations and putting them into a map that I can share when we have a little more details about the area.

Keep on gaming!
