Weekly Update

02/05/2023

This was a good week in the hobby for me. I only had to work a few nights at the 2nd job so I had more time for my crafting. I was able to complete painting more miniatures, print a bunch more miniatures and terrain, and kit bash some terrain.

Here was what I was able to finish:

A frost giant bellows as he prepares for war.

I FINALLY finished the frost giant just to get him off the table. The frost giant is a Reaper miniature that I have had for years and just wanted to be out of the box of shame. I actually like how he came out and enjoyed painting him once I forced myself to do it. It’s weird how that happens.

A pair of adventurers make their way through the underground maze of tunnels in search of glory and gold.

Here is a picture with better lighting.

The figure with a torch is the generic adventurer from Brite Minis and the female dwarf is from Massive Darkness 2.

A group of mushroom folk greets a traveler from the surface. The miniatures are from Fat Dragon Games. I really like the simple touch of coloring the ‘warts’ on the miniatures a slightly different shade. It makes the pop on the model.

A ranger and cleric stumble upon a dark warrior and his bone golem.

The ranger is from the Bones 5 Kickstarter, the cleric and dark warrior are from BriteMins, and the bone golem is a HeroClix that was rebased and the paint was touched-up.

A shady individual and his earth elemental stalk from the alley.

The man and the earth elemental are from the Bones 5 Kickstarter. The buildings are handmade.

That is it for items that were completed this week. Next are some of the stuff in process since I doubt I will get a chance to update the site this week.

Here are two McDonald’s toys from Black Panther 2. I glued them to MDF, added sculpamold to the bases along with some real rocks, and primed them black. I will paint them up to look like crude stone statues of sea elves or their gods.

I bought a huge pack of Christmas village tree this year and I am going to get some of them ready for the table. I spray-painted the trees green to remove the white snow effects them glued them to MDF bases and added sculpamold and real rocks. I will paint the ground brown, add flocking, then they should be good to go.

Here is what is on the table now, ready for painting. There is a huge variety from different sources that I will try to go through this week (I do have to work 3 nights).

I took the dragon model from BriteMinis and scaled it up 150% so it could be used as an adult dragon in D&D. During the print, my cat ran into the model and broke it off the plate. I stopped the print but didn’t want to waste the model. I took calipers and measured the height I had. I then loaded the model back into Cura, moved the model that distance below the build plate, and printed only what was missing. It was a perfect fit. I glued them on with E6000 so they should never fall off then primed the model.

I might get a few more models done this week since my daughter has begun to help. Here is the 1st miniature that she painted:

That’s better than most of the miniatures that I paint.

Keep on gaming!
