Who’s That? #5

12/31/2022

This week, I thought I would give ICONS a try for character creation.

You start with Origin. We roll 2D6 and get 6 so the hero is Transformed! We will get a +2 to a Power or Attribute. We can do this after we have rolled both.

For Attributes, I get the rolling rolls:

Prowess: 3 (rolled a 4)

Coordination: 5 (rolled an 8)

Strength: 5 (another 8)

Intellect: 3 (rolled a 4)

Awareness: 4 (rolled a 6)

Willpower: 5 (rolled a 7)

Powers! We roll 2D6 and get a 4. We will have 2 Powers! On the following Table, we roll 6 a so the 1st power is a Defensive Power. We roll a 4 then a 3 so our Defensive Power is Life Support. A roll of 8 means it is Level 5. So we take Breathing, Eating, Sleeping, Vacuum, and Radiation.

The 2nd Power is a 7 so it is an Offensive Power. We roll a 4 then a 2 so it is Dazzle at Level 4 (rolls a 6).

For the Specialties, we roll a 12 so we have 4 Specialties. We select Computers, Electronics, Investigation, and Military. The hero is part of a military family but works off-base as a computer repair technician.

We look for a quick image to use and find this:

Our hero will be called Highbeam. She has the ability to produce very bright lights from her hands and she is immune to a lot of things. We will say that she doesn’t need to eat, sleep, etc because her body just absorbs sunlight and that is the source of her powers. Her real name is Dana White and her husband is in the military. Dana works at a local electronic repair shop.

We will use the extra boost from Transformed to raise her Dazzle to Rank 6.

We add in a few Qualities and find out Deterination (3) and Stamina (10).

That’s it! ICONS really does have a fast character creation system. It is great for one-shots and silly games with family/friends. If I was going to run a longer campaign I would like a game with more crunch like Mutants and Masterminds 3E.

Keep on gaming!
