Miniatures Tip: Replacing Broken Swords

02/04/2022

It happens. You have a miniature and when cleaning it up, priming it, or painting it the sword breaks off. Maybe it was bent too many times if it is a metal miniature. Maybe the miniature was 3D printed and the sword didn’t come out correctly. Here is a tip that I use to replace it. It might not be perfect but it is better than just having the miniature walking around with a sword hilt.

Use a cheap plastic comb! The teeth are about the right size and usually, there are different size teeth on the comb to use.

Skeleton with a broken sword.

This skeleton was 3D printed and the sword didn’t print correctly. I tried to save it but it didn’t work. I could leave the skeleton with just a hilt, but I decided to fix it.

“Fixed” Skeleton

Here is the same skeleton with a comb tooth as a sword. It looks about the same as the sword that was there. Some super glue and accelerator and the skeleton is good as new. I normally let them sit for an hour before I prime the sword. I can then continue painting the miniature.

Keep on gaming!
