Continuing with the Due Vigilance series, we get to Issue 03 – Six Gun. This is a different direction from the other two issues that were focused on magical characters. Six Gun is about characters that have been technologically modified.
The Relationship Matrix is back at the beginning of the book. (It is a welcome sight.) Ather this, there is a page on the group history followed by a page that talks about the group dynamics, then a page about some group tactics. That helps since this team really needs to feel like a team (more on that later).
The characters are unique and nice to see, breaking some molds that a lot of villains fall into in comics:
- Camo, the team shapeshifter, actually has some decent toughness for an infiltrator-style character.
- Deadeye, the team sniper, has cybernetic eyes and a railgun!
- 3chelon, the team hacker who has drones to scan the battlefield.
- Headcase, a psychopath that is just a brain in a robot shell.
- Marauder, team leader and the only one that seems right in the head.
- Spot, genetically enhanced dog with cyborgnetic enhancements.
All of the team members are linked together through the Tactical Data Distributor, a technological mental link that allows them to share information without talking. This is a great tool for the GM to use, so the villains can act against a target that only drones spot. This is the reason the team tactics section helps. These villains are linked together and trained as a team. They need to act like it when it comes to the game.
After the characters, there is a page that talks about Orion Private Security, the organization that created Six Gun. After that are some adventure seeds along with the NPCs that are mentioned in the seeds. One of the seeds has a way to get the characters from the previous issues (Oktobermen and Black Chapter) involved in the same adventure as Six Gun. At the back of the issue are more paper standees for you to use if you play that sort of game.
This is a nice addition to the “universe” to add more than just magic to the campaign. These villains feel more like they operate in the grey area between good and bad. They are mercenaries but they were framed by Orion Private Security. Very different than the Oktobermen that are (mostly) plain Evil.
Final Grade: A
Keep on gaming!
