This week we return to the Due Vigilance series from Vigilance Press to review Issue 02: The Black Chapter!
The opening section of the book talks about The Library, a secret organization that is ” dedicated to the preservation, protection, and control of mystical knowledge.” It goes through the history of the Library and options for you to bring The Library into your game. This section includes some mystical artifacts, benefits from working for The Library, different branches of The Library, and another character, Oracle Sphinx who has an interesting backstory.
The next section of the book talks about the Black Chapter, “the codename for one of Special Collections most capable and effective teams”. The book goes through the seven members of the team and what each thinks of the other members of the team. I do miss the matrix that was included in the Oktobermen that gave us a visualization that was easy to refer to during play. Each member has a couple of pages for a write-up, a nice piece of art, and a complete character sheet. There is an additional character included, The Mad Monk. All of the characters are supplied with the Herolab files which is a very nice touch.
The next section has five adventure seeds that you can use to get the players involved with the Library and the Black Chapter. There are a few NPC in the seeds that are started out in the book as well.
The back of the book includes some standees that can be photocopied and used on the table if you need miniatures. The NPCs and extra characters are included in the standees which is a nice touch.
This book is a great addition to a mystical campaign and is a must if you are using the Oktobermen supplement.
Final Grade: A
Keep on gaming!
