I have wanted to play DCC ever since I got the book. It seems like a fun system that brings back the feeling that your character is in danger every time they venture into combat or set off a trap.
To get a better feel of the character creation, I went through the trouble of making one character for each class:

I made them all Level 0 then just leveled them up to Level 1.
I like the concept that you have to roll to cast spells. That makes sense to me. Why should Fireball always work? The targets get a Save but they will take damage even if they pass and it always goes off at the exact point the wizard wants within range (no chance of a miss).
I don’t mind special abilities like Medusa Gaze and such going off automatically since that is part of the creature, but casting magic is special and should feel that way. In DCC, there are no spell slots. You can cast the same spell round after round, just don’t fail! Failure means you might forget the spell for the day or even get corruption. Over time, that corruption mutates the spellcaster into something inhuman.
Professor Dungeon Master went over some of the spellcasting mechanics in one of his videos over on Dungeoncraft.
Keep on gaming!
