While running Out of the Abyss, I generated a random table of encounters that would occur in the Underdark. Some of them are positive and helpful while others were negative. Some of the encounters were more neutral but creepy like unnaturally quiet areas or rotting backpack full of rotted food. Since it was an Underdark campaign where madness was happening, I made sure some of the encounters helped room some of that madness.

These encounters add some variety to travel beyond just using up food/water. These add to the world, making seems like there are other creatures beyond the PCs moving and living in the Underdark.

Feel free to use this table or steal parts of it. Some of the encounters are directly from Out of the Abyss (such as members of the Society of Brilliance). Others are creatures out of the Monster Manual, Tome of Beast, Creature Codex, or the Tome of Beast II.
